World Cup Season Kicks off in Argentina!

Jacobellis Wins SBX World Cup Opener

CHAPELCO, Argentina (Sept. 13) - Three-time X Games gold medalist Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT) busted open the snowboardcross World Cup season in a way only she could - dominating a stacked international field to win the first race in the eight competition season schedule in Argentina on Saturday.

The win marked Jacobellis’ 15th World Cup career victory.

“I’m happy. I’m a competitive girl so if I start I want to win. Now, I can go home and tell my coach that he did a great job,” Jacobellis said.

Jacobellis was followed by Brooke Shaw (Litchfirls, CT) in sixth and Marni Yamada (Seattle, WA) in seventh. Callan Chythlook-Sifsof (Girdwood, AK) finished 16th.

Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI), who won his first World Cup last season in Lake Placid, NY, led the U.S. men in fourth.

Baumgartner led four U.S. men into the top 10, with Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) finishing sixth, followed by Pat Holland (Tahoe City, CA) in eighth and Nate Holland (Squaw Valley, CA) in 10th.

It was Pat Holland’s first top-10 finish, and Cheever’s highest placing in a World Cup competition.

The snowboardcross World Cup competition continues in December in Arosa, Switzerland.
