Arosa 2008
After what could be called a dismal season of results for Seth Wescott, the 2006 Olympic Gold Medalist, it looks like things are finally starting to shape up for Seth!
An injury during the summer before the 2006/2007 season set him back and aside from a Grand Prix win, his results last season were far from stellar. He had a string of either just making the cut, then going for a few runs or not even making it beyond the 1st round was starting to sound all to normal for Seth. Most athletes would have been shaken emotionally to the core, would begin to question themselves and their careers, some might even consider giving up after a year like that. Drive, determination and passion are what sets apart champions from the rest. It’s what causes normal athletes to o beyond normal goals and athleticism to become the best in the world. I saw the fire and determination in Seth this World Cup. The past Olympic Medalist is getting ready to show his peers and the world that he is not just a one time Gold medalist, but a contender for 2010 as well.
Seth pretty much dominated the World Cup SBX race in Arosa Switzerland. He had the 2nd fastest qualifying time and was riding with the confidence of a true champion. His starts were some of the best I had seen from anyone, he ripped the course to shreds, gaining every ounce of speed from every feature that he could; proving to everyone that he is still in the running to be the fastest SBX athlete in the World.
Like any Champion, he took care of all the variables he could control and left the rest to his skills on the course. Seth brought his own wax tech to Arosa. Some might say this was overkill, but clearly his decision paid off. As they say in car racing, it’s the driver who wins the race, not the car. But as any good driver knows, you need a properly tuned car to drive your fastest. That’s exactly what Seth’s tech did, by turning Seth’s board into a racing machine. Whether it’s the board or the determination or the raw talent, Seth stood on the top of that podium smiling ear to ear, ready to do it all again.
For young athletes there is a lesson here, Champions are Champions because they have the drive and the determination to do whatever it takes to be the best.
Seth, CONGRATULATIONS! Keep it up and you’ll be holding a second Gold in 2010!
