“ONBOARD” With the Holland Brothers

January 20th, 2009

Right now, the world’s best athletes have convened yet again in what many people in recent years have called, the “Mini Olympics.” No doubt, many of the names you would expect to see in 2010 will be at X Games 13; Palmer, Wescott, Jacobellis and of course, the notorious Holland Brothers (no, they’re not twins!).

Nate and Pat Holland

In what has already been a hectic year, with huge changes in sponsors and some just pulling out all together, many athletes have experienced the same troubles. It costs a lot of money to compete at this level -  up to several thousand dollars for every event. Very few athletes get a free ride. This year, Schweitzer Mountain Resort, in North Idaho, will be hosting a party fundraiser in Taps and the Caribou Room. The party will take place on January 24th starting at 11am to watch the X Games live on ABC-Sports. Nate, who has won in Aspen for the last three years, will go for a fourth win to break the record and continue his dominance there. If Nate wins, he will be the only athlete in the history of the X Games to win any event 4 years in a row. Aside from Nate, Shaun Palmer is the only other male to have won the event three years in a row, no doubt there will be some serious action on the course.

Not only will there be a big screen viewing of the action (always a plus!), there will be food and drink specials, prizes, giveaways and a silent auction (including a Schweitzer ‘09-’10 season pass and exclusive US Team gear and memorabilia, among other things).  Remember, this event is meant to raise money for the Holland Brothers as they make their way to Vancouver in 2010, so bring your wallet and if you can’t make it, there will be a website for the event where you can make a donation for your favorite athletes and pick up some extra gear. To find out more about this event, call 208-255-2500.

Go to: www.HollandBrothers.net to look at what they’ve got to offer. Items include: snowboard gear, a white-water rafting trip, a snow-cat snowboarding trip and “Everest High” giglee art. Lots of cool stuff to check out! Support US Team members as they make the journey of a lifetime on their way to Vancouver in 2010!

Don’t forget to check out the event at Buttermilk, Saturday January 24th, at 10:30am with finals starting at 1pm. If you can’t make it to Aspen, check it out on ABC Sports starting at 1pm MT (3pm ET). Also, don’t forget to come back to SBX Magazine for photos, and coverage of the event!
